ELECTRODARTS HISTORY
Electrodarts was formed in
1980 by Paul Healand, Tom Edmondson and Frank Burniston.
They were looking for funds
for the Humberside county stage set up for the electrics.
They came up with the name
Electrodarts to raise funds for the electrics and to also run
tournaments under the Electrodarts banner.
They went on to organise and
promote most of the tournaments in the city, which included the News
of the World.

Pictured above are Electrodarts
Frank Burniston, Paul Healand and Tom Edmondson. Bill Whitbread
founder of the Hull Thursday League in 1969 is in blue and Walt
Overfield is in the waistcoat. Pic is from 1980.
The
first tournament they promoted was colourful to say the least. This
was in 1980 and none of the committee were confident enough to use
the mic and someone ran off with the entry money at the end of the
night.
Following Paul’s move with
work to Kenya the committee folded in 1989.
Following the revival of the
Neil Edmondson memorial by Dave Taylor in May 2002 the name
Electrodarts has made a comeback.
Since 2002 Electrodarts have
gone onto raise £20,000 for local charities such as cystic fibrosis,
dove house hospice, cancer ward 10 castle hill, Viking radio for the
kids, Macmillan nurses and Hull Royal cardiac unit.
The current committee is
Dave Taylor(chairman), George Beckett, Tom Edmondson, Paul Taylor
and Dave Littlewood.
This year
the main charity has been Dove House Hospice for which they have
produced a calendar of lady dart players form around the city

THERE ARE MANY THANK YOU LETTERS FROM THE CHARITIES AND PERSONAL
LETTERS DISPLAYED AT IDEAL STANDARD CLUB
A TRUE DARTS STORY MAY 25TH 2007
I MET JOHN LOWE AT 4PM AT IDEAL STANDARD CLUB FOR THE EVENINGS
EXHIBITION WITH ERIC BRISTOW. AFTER SORTING OUT THE CASH AND SETTING THE
STAGE UP, LOWE ASKED TO TRY THE THROW SO DAVE LITTLEWOOD GAVE HIM HIS
SET OF 23GM JOHN LOWE DARTS. HE THREW 100 WITH HIS FIRST AND ONLY THROW.
LOWE THEN ASKED IF HE COULD GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A PUB MEAL AND A
DRINK. PRIORY WAS SUGGESTED TO WHICH HE REPLIED THAT HE USED TO MEET 2
PLAYERS THERE FOR PRACTICE IN THE LATE SEVENTIES - EARLY EIGHTIES,
NAMELY ALF MACKLIN AND ALAN DOREY. SO OFF HE WENT AND SENT ERIC A TEXT
TO MEET HIM THERE. ON ARRIVING AT PRIORY HE ORDERED A DRINK AND WAS THEN
APPROACHED BY ONE MEMBER OF A GANG OF YOUNG LADS PLAYING POOL. ON
LOOKING LOWE UP AND DOWN THE LAD SAID " YOU DON'T HALF LOOK LIKE THAT
OLD DART PLAYER JOHN LOWE MATE". TO WHICH LOWE REPLIED " I OFTEN GET
THAT MATE". THE LAD WENT BACK TO PLAYING HIS POOL. A LITTLE WHILE LATER
BRISTOW ARRIVED WITH HIS MANAGER. BRISTOW WAS WEARING HIS CUSTOMARY RED
CRAFTY COCKNEY DARTS SHIRT. THEY WERE ALL STOOD AT THE BAR WHEN THE SAME
LAD APPROACHED AGAIN, MAYBE A LITTLE WORSE FOR DRINK . THE LAD LOOKED
BRISTOW UP AND DOWN BEFORE TURNING TO LOWE AND SAID " WELL I STILL THINK
YOU LOOK LIKE JOHN LOWE MATE, BUT WHO THE F... DOES HE THINK HE IS
TRYING TO LOOK LIKE ERIC BRISTOW. BRISTOW CARRIED ON WITH HIS GUINNESS
FLABBERGASTED. "F...... LUNATICS ROUND HERE" BRISTOW COMMENTED. LOWE AND
HIS WIFE KAREN WERE STILL LAUGHING WHEN REPEATING THE STORY TO ME AND A
FEW OTHERS LATER IN THE EVENING.
